Welcome to Sawdust Notes, the personal woodworking blog of Floris Brouwer, based at Hoeksewaard 42, 1181 CE Amstelveen, Netherlands. By accessing or using this website you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you disagree with any part of them, please do not use the website. These terms apply to all visitors, blog readers and clients who book a consultation, course or custom build plan.
The website offers two things: freely accessible editorial content (project diaries, cut lists, tool notes) and paid services arranged personally after you submit a request through the contact form. The rules for each follow below.
All articles, project diaries, plans, cut lists, photographs and illustrations published here are my original work, protected by Dutch and international copyright law. You are welcome to:
You may not republish full plans or articles, reuse photographs, or incorporate my cut lists and designs into any commercial product or service without my prior written permission. Automated scraping and bulk downloading of the website are not permitted.
The guides and plans on this blog reflect personal experience in a small home garage. Woodworking involves sharp tools, heavy materials and machinery, and every workshop, timber batch and skill level is different. Content here is provided for information and inspiration; following a published plan cannot guarantee a specific result in your workshop.
Nothing on this website replaces the safety instructions of tool manufacturers or common sense at the bench. You are responsible for working within your own skill level, using appropriate protective equipment, and reading the manual of every tool you switch on. If a step feels beyond you, that feeling is data — stop and get help first.
Submitting the contact form is an enquiry, not a binding order. A booking becomes final only after I confirm the scope, date and price to you personally by email or phone. Prices shown on the website are indications in euros, including VAT where applicable; unusually large or complex projects may be quoted individually — always agreed with you before any work begins.
Consultations and custom build plans are invoiced after delivery and are payable within fourteen days by bank transfer. Course seats are paid in advance, as groups are limited to six participants. Timber, hardware and printed materials used during a course are included in the price; the shelf you build and the reference card are yours to keep.
When using this website and its contact form you agree to provide accurate information, to use the form only for genuine enquiries, and not to submit unlawful, offensive or misleading content. You may not attempt to disrupt the website, gain unauthorised access to its server, or misuse the published contact details for unsolicited commercial messages.
Clients booking a consultation are responsible for providing safe access to the garage, shed or room concerned and for mentioning any relevant circumstances — low ceilings, shared walls, curious pets — in advance.
I document and write with care, but I cannot warrant that every page is complete, error-free or suitable for your specific workshop and skill level. To the maximum extent permitted by Dutch law, liability is excluded for indirect damage or consequential loss arising from the use of information on this website — including wasted timber, failed glue-ups and purchase decisions based on personal tool opinions.
For paid services, my liability is limited to direct damage and in any case capped at the amount you paid for the service in question. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for intent or deliberate recklessness, or any liability that cannot be excluded under mandatory law. Your statutory consumer rights remain fully unaffected.
This website embeds a Google Maps frame and may occasionally link to external websites — for example a timber yard or tool shop mentioned in a diary. External sites are governed by their own terms and privacy policies; I have no control over their content or availability and accept no responsibility for them. A link never implies sponsorship or partnership unless explicitly stated.
The handling of personal data on this website is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms an integral part of these Terms of Use. In short: your details are used only to answer your request — never sold, never shared for marketing, and deletable on request.
Blog content, service descriptions, prices and these Terms of Use may be updated at any time. The version published on this page applies from the date shown at the top. For bookings already confirmed, the terms and prices in force at the moment of confirmation remain applicable to that booking.
These Terms of Use and all agreements arising from this website are governed exclusively by the law of the Netherlands. Disputes will first be discussed personally — most disagreements, like most wobbly joints, can be fixed with patience and the right clamp. If that fails, the dispute will be submitted to the competent court in the district of Amsterdam, unless mandatory law designates another court.
